A LOT! Too much sometimes...

A lot has happened over the last 4-5 days. As I stated in my previous post, my grandma passed away. My mom is in the hospital for pneumonia...and she only has one lung (she was a smoker and had lung cancer years ago). She's been in there now for almost 2 weeks (this Wednesday will be 2 weeks). As of last Tuesday, my aunt joined her in the hopsital with double pneumonia (can you freakin' believe it???). They had the same doctor, so since my grandma had passed away, the doctor thought it was important for them to room together. Two days after my mom when in, the doctors were getting weird heart results on my mom, so they started out with an ultrasound to check her legs and neck for clots. They found that the carotid artery in the left side of her neck was fully blocked. It was a blessing that she had pneumonia...otherwise they never would have found the blockage. The specialist needed to do surgery, but couldn't until my mom's lung was healed enough, or they felt she wouldn't make it if they put her to sleep. They told us her condition was "critical". Well, the other day I got a frantic call from my sister telling me to get Mark home from physical therapy, that Mom had a stroke. She was unresponsive and the right side of her body was just limp...they said her right leg even curled up. Luckily, a room full a people and one of her doctors was there when it happened. I rushed to the hospital, and she seemed fine...a little dazed. I couldn't understand. They said she had a TIA (a mini stroke). That after about 30 minutes, she just kind of snapped out of it. Then the doctors knew they HAD to do the surgery now...they couldn't wait. The hospital chaplain was called in to privately talk to my mom...we all knew how bad it was then. They took her back at 2:00 for a 3:30 scheduled appointment on Friday. We found out her surgery went well...it took a lot longer than they said it would. She's now in ICU and will be as long as her blood pressure stays low. When it gets better she'll be moving back into the hospital room with my aunt. My aunt is doing well and hopefully will be getting out sometime this week. The surgeon told us that my mom is now only in the hospital for pneumonia. Thank God they found that blockage before she had a major stroke. Today is my grandma's visitation and tomorrow is a graveside service. The funeral home had a Marine there, so they couldn't get to my grandma any earlier. Neither my mom nor my aunt will be attending...so we'll have a memorial service later for them to attend. They are really upset that they can't go, but they are way too sick and the doctor's wouldn't even consider it.
