Shayla & milk contamination

Well, Shayla pediatrician's office called yesterday. Her doctor researched the issues with melamine and the milk contamination and doesn't feel there's any real danger. Melamine (as she and I both read) metabolizes in the body, so there is nothing to test for as far as that goes...however, her kidney function can still be tested by blood work. So, for peace of mind, when I take her back for her 24 month checkup, I'm gonna have that checked. She said the medical issue she had earlier this year, when we had to take her to the emergency room, would have progressively gotten worse and not just stopped had it been a kidney issue (that made me feel better realizing that). I had also been copied on many e-mails from our local FCC (Families with Children from China) group where other pediatricians were saying the same kind of things. Whew, I do feel better.

Hi,

I just came across your blog, Shayla is beautiful.

On a different note, the tainted milk can cause kidney stones that are not detected in blood and urine testing. We had a renal ultra sound to rule this out. Also, our agency contacted families that came home as far back as 2006 to have their babies tested. There is a yahoo group you can join for more info on this it is ChinaMilkIssues@yahoogroups

There is alot of info on this site!!

Good Luck,
Cindy
