Last week sucked!
Okay, I haven't written, but haven't had the time. Last Monday I had an appointment to take Shayla to have her first ever pictures taken. I was excited and had a couple different outfits for her to wear. The morning started out badly and only got worse. First her diaper leaked. She sleeps with us in bed still (naps only in her crib for now)...so I half-assed cleaned that up so we could go back to sleep since it was only 5:30 am. I knew I had to change the whole bed and wash sheets, but would just do it after we got back from having pictures taken. Problem solved...kinda. Then after we did get up, I gave her breakfast and after that I was drinking a big 'ol glass of my favorite (Diet Pepsi) in the living room...the cup had a lid and straw (since you can't trust the baby around cups), and the dumb lid popped off after only 2 sips. Diet Pepsi went everywhere! The carpet in the living room is a cream color....hard to clean. I promptly sat Shayla in her playpen (pack-n-play) and went to the garage to grab the carpet steam cleaner. This one I had never worked, but had seen Mark use it. I finally got that cleaned up as Shayla was screaming to be picked up. Then I carried the steam cleaner back to the garage and noticed it leaked all the way. So, then I had to mop up the spots in the kitchen (the Swiffer is my friend in a pinch). Just as I carried the Swiffer Mop back to it's place in the laundry room, the phone rang. At this point, I was pissed and cussing to myself. I answered the phone and it was Mark. I knew something was wrong because he can only phone me at his scheduled breaks at work. He had broken his leg and the ambulance was there to take him to the hospital. You've got to be freakin' kidding me! So I quickly got dressed, got Shayla dressed, called my Mom for help, had my sister cancel our photo appointment (by the way, I now can't get in until December 23rd for her pictures) and got to the hospital. Mark finally had surgery on his leg yesterday (which was also his birthday). His fibula is broken, his ankle was dislocated and ligaments torn. They put a plate and screws in yesterday to hold his ankle in place. He still only has a splint and can't get around too well on crutches. He should be getting a cast put on in a couple of weeks...which should help his be a bit more mobile. For now, he's hanging out on the couch. Picture below is from Tuesday...it's Mark dealing with worker's comp issues.
