A nice conversation
There is a person at work that rarely ever talks to anyone. She usually won't even glance in most people's direction...even when they speak to her. She keeps to herself and isn't there all the time. Most all conversations I've had with her are regarding work and not personal in nature. Earlier this week, she actually said my name and asked me about something unrelated to work. It kinda threw me off a little. Today she totally floored me! She was walking by and took notice of some pictures I have posted on my walls. She and I had a really nice, friendly conversation. She told me she was adopted. She said she has the most wonderful, loving parents and that she never had any thoughts of ever searching for her birthparents. She did have some major surgeries throughout her life (all related to the same illness) and decided at one point to see if she could find out if there were any medical issues that may be genetic. Other than that time, she said her adoptive parents were always very supportive and loving and she knew they were her "parents". She said they always spoke well of her birthparents, although they didn't personally know them, but she was always told that her birth parents loved her very much...loved her to not abort her and to make sure she was well taken care of. That it must have been a very difficult decision for her birthparents. She said she has always had her "fantasy" of what they would be like and would never want to ruin it by any truth...so she has no desire to look. We talked about a few other adoption related items and some unrelated...and found that we actually had a lot in common in many ways. It was nice to hear from an adoptee about what it is like to have gone through that. It was nice to hear...and I needed to hear it.
